From January 2022, plastic bags will disappear in German supermarkets; the Bundestag has adopted a corresponding ban. Der Spiegel writes about this.

It is noted that they will no longer issue and sell bags made of synthetic materials with walls 15-50 microns thick, but the ban will not apply to thin cellophane bags lying in departments with vegetables and fruits.

According to Environment Minister Svenja Schulz, plastic bags are the epitome of waste of resources. She initiated the ban on the sale of packages.

“Shopping baskets, cloth bags for vegetables and fruits and recyclable boxes for products from the fish department are good alternatives,” she said.

Meanwhile, WWF believes that the ban is only a symbolic measure, since they account for only 1% of the total use of synthetic materials in the country.
