Scientists have linked excess body weight and particles of the exhaled virus.
Coronavirus, like many other infections, is transmitted by airborne droplets. Therefore, the rate of spread of the disease depends on the amount of aerosol exhaled. For different people, these readings can differ tens, or even hundreds of times. To identify the superproliferators of COVID-19, scientists from MIT and Harvard conducted a study.
Experts have analyzed the composition and amount of aerosol exhaled by different categories of people. As a result, it turned out that most of these particles are emitted by overweight people, as well as elderly citizens. In addition, such patients often carry a severe infection, which also contributes to the spread of coronavirus.
According to the researchers, such indicators are associated with the fact that mucous membranes are very often damaged in people with a higher body mass index and in old age. Such people often suffer from problems with the cardiovascular system, which complicates the patient’s condition with coronavirus disease, Izvestia reports.
