Mexico recorded a new death record from COVID-19 on Tuesday, with 1,584 additional deaths recorded in 24 hours, according to figures released by national health authorities.

A country of 128 million inhabitants, Mexico now has 142,832 deaths since the start of the pandemic. It is the fourth most affected country in the world after the United States, Brazil and India.
Mexico’s health ministry also reported 18,894 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,668,396.
Between January 8 and 14, the country recorded the highest mortality since the start of the pandemic, with an average of 983 deaths per day, according to the same source.
The rise in infections and deaths is concentrated in densely populated areas like the capital Mexico City and its vast metropolitan area, home to some 23 million people, which has become the epicenter of the pandemic in the Latin American country.
