The press service of the North Atlantic Alliance issued a statement in which a positive assessment was given to the completion of emergency checks of the combat readiness of the Russian armed forces in the south and west of the Russian Federation, announced by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
NATO called this decision “a step towards de-escalation” and a reduction in tensions.
“The Alliance took note of the announcement by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Any steps towards de-escalation by Russia are important and long awaited,” the NATO press service quoted Ren-TV as saying.
At the same time, the Alliance stressed that they plan to continue monitoring any activity of Russian troops near the state border with Ukraine, since they consider the pulling of Russian forces in this area “unjustified.”
