Owners of phones running on the Android operating system urgently need to remove the “very dangerous” application, cyber expert Zach Doffman said in an article for Forbes magazine.
The expert talks about the SuperVPN suite of free and paid apps, installed over a hundred million times. According to the author of the article, a service that “promises to protect your privacy and keep you safe” works the other way around. He noted that the application is accused of data leakage and concealment of malicious spyware.
According to Doffman, research group CyberNews reported on the sale on a hacker forum of three databases with information about customer devices and user credentials of SuperVPN, as well as ChatVPN and GeckoVPN.
In addition, as CyberNews warned, at least six other similar apps were found in the Google Play store with logos from different developers, but the same descriptions.
The expert explained to those wishing to install a VPN client that it is better to choose a well-known developer with verified reviews. Moreover, he drew attention to the fact that it is better to avoid free services.
