Although it’s been around for years I’ve only recently tried my luck with crossfit. The program is highly popular for the short bursts of exercise, versatility, and the results. Most people who get into CrossFit do so in attempt to get stronger and increase their endurance levels. Here’s what I’d like to say about this highly popular exercise regimen.

I Didn’t Know How Important Attire Was
I’ve always taken a one shoe approach for all my workouts. I never bothered to change running shoes and basketball shoes, and just put on whatever shoes I liked. It always baffled me why people would buy high-end shoes like nobull. However, when I started CrossFit, I no longer asked why is nobull so expensive—I knew. The exercises performed are very intense and this type of footwear helps prevent the potential injuries you could incur, especially as a beginner.
Figuring Out The System Takes Time
I’ve met people that were doing CrossFit for over six months and still had no idea exactly what they were doing. The system is loaded with so many different workouts, and there are so many acronyms, that it takes a lot of time and effort just to understand it. In my opinion, that’s a major drawback. I prefer workouts to be simple and easily digestible—regardless of their intensity.
Increasing Your Endurance Is Almost Effortless WIth CrossFit
With other workout programs, the increasing intensity of the workouts can be overwhelming and it takes a lot of effort to excel. However, CrossFit is designed to increase your endurance levels even if you give it the bare minimum. Don’t get me wrong, you’re still going to feel sore after practically every workout—I don’t think I’ve ever taken so many rest days! It’s a highly intense workout. So intense, that even going through the motions will have you sore.
Your Diet Is Important Too
Don’t assume that the intense exercise is enough to get you in shape without altering your diet. For one thing, a bad diet will make you feel worse when you work out. Most people I knew started CrossFit while they were on a Paleo diet, which isn’t the best diet to choose for such intense activity because you’re going to need some carbs to fuel your muscles during regular intense exercise. Just eat a balanced diet, and stay off the junk food and you should be fine. No need to go overboard with counting calories and weighing your food. Also, most people (especially women) will find that they may need to eat more to fuel their workouts. Building muscles requires a lot of energy, and you should be getting it from a lot of healthy food.
Final Review
Overall, I think it’s a great workout program to join, especially if you want to build your fitness levels fast. There is nothing like it, but be aware that there is a learning curve. Make sure to get yourself a certified coach and try the program yourself. Don’t tie yourself with a workout partner because everyone handles the intensity differently.
