Drivers in the Moscow region were advised to change to public transport due to worsening weather conditions in connection with the North Atlantic cyclone “Greta”. This was announced on Thursday, December 24, on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Moscow Region.

According to forecasters, on the night of Saturday, December 26, a blizzard and heavy snowfall are expected in the region. There will be 20-25 mm of precipitation, the formation of snowdrifts up to 25 cm is possible. A deterioration in visibility on the roads is predicted. The air temperature will be up to -2 … -5 degrees on Friday, December 25, and up to -4 …- 7 degrees on Saturday, December 26. It is also predicted that the wind will increase about 10-15 m / s, writes RIAMO.

The road services of the Moscow region were put on high alert. If necessary, additional equipment will appear on the roads. The priority is to clean roads with heavy traffic, public transport routes, as well as entrances to socially significant objects.

The regional Ministry of Transport urged motorists not to ride summer tires and not make sharp maneuvers. Also, the drivers were reminded of the need to observe the speed limit and distance. Pedestrians were encouraged to cross the road only in areas of pedestrian crossings, making sure that there were no approaching vehicles. When driving along the edge of the carriageway, a pedestrian must identify himself with reflective elements on his clothing.

Earlier on December 24, the Emergencies Ministry also warned residents of the Moscow region about heavy snow, blizzards, snow drifts and ice on the roads on Friday, December 25. The corresponding warning applies to the Moscow region, writes the agency of city news “Moscow”.

On December 23, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, predicted dangerous snowfalls in the Central Federal District at the end of the week. According to him, “on Saturday, a complex of dangerous weather events is predicted in the Central Federal District: snowfalls, blizzards, snow drifts … On December 25-26, heavy snowfalls will take place in the Central Federal District”. The increase in snow on December 25 and 26 in the center of European Russia will be 10-25 cm.
