Since the beginning of the year, the number of people killed in fires in Russia has grown in more than half of the regions compared to the same period last year, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry said.
The department reported that the growth is noted in 48 constituent entities of Russia, the largest increase was recorded in the North-West and Siberian federal districts, where abnormal frosts were observed in February and January.
92% of the total number of fire victims died as a result of fires in the residential sector, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
“Almost a quarter of all fires in housing are due to careless handling of fire,” writes TASS on Friday, March 5.
Also, among the main causes of fires in residential buildings, the department named emergency operation of electrical equipment and power grids (35%), violation of the rules for the device and operation of furnace equipment (more than 34%).
In January of this year, more than 21 thousand fires occurred in the country, in which 1184 people died, including 38 children.
On February 24, it was reported that the EMERCOM of Russia, due to appeals from the population and organizations, is considering the issue of amending the rules of the fire regime, which entered into force on January 1.
