Alexei Podberezkin, Director of the Center for Military-Political Studies at MGIMO, commented on Tuesday, February 16, the statement of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that the alliance is ready for both cooperation and confrontation with Russia.
According to the expert, such statements regularly appear from the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance.
“This is a political declaration confirming the viability of the alliance, as follows from such statements that it is more alive than dead. Although in fact, many evidence today already speaks in favor of the fact that this alliance as a military-political bloc has undergone very serious crisis phenomena, “Podberezkin said in an interview with RT.
He expressed the opinion that such statements will continue to appear, in addition, they will increase.
“That is, ideological confrontation and the transition to psychological warfare are probably inevitable,” Podberezkin concluded.
Earlier on the same day, Stoltenberg said that NATO is in a state of readiness both for confrontation with Russia and for cooperation, 360 TV channel reported. The Secretary General stressed that the dialogue with Russia should be based on “strength, firmness”, but it is also possible and even necessary to set up interaction with Russia. He saw no contradictions in his statement.
