In the Trans-Baikal Territory, during a hunt on Saturday, April 24, the head of the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Yevgeny Shikhov, was shot.
According to the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region, at one of the hunting grounds Shikhov had a conflict with a local worker, who shot an official and another person with a gun.
A source in the authorities for the regional news portal Chita.Ru reported that 52-year-old Shikhov, together with another man, had come to the hunting farm, since a wild boar hunt had been opened in connection with African swine fever. When they settled down, a local watchman, who was reportedly intoxicated, opened fire on them with a shotgun.
As the REN TV channel specified, the second person killed was the head of SIZO No. 1 Valery German. He died of his wounds on the way to the hospital.
On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was initiated under paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Murder of two people.” It is being investigated by investigators from the Investigation Department of Highly Important Cases.
Shikhov was born in 1969 in Khakassia. He graduated from the Abakan State Pedagogical Institute. After that he worked in the penitentiary system of the republic. He received the post of head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for Transbaikalia at the beginning of 2018.
He became major general of the internal service last year.
