In the Ivanovo region, morgues in hospitals cannot cope with the storage of the bodies of patients who have died from coronavirus infection. This was announced on Monday, November 16, by the director of the regional health department Arthur Fokin.
He assessed the situation with COVID-19 in the region as tense. In his opinion, in the near future the dynamics of the incidence will not decrease and about 3 thousand beds will be needed for patients with coronavirus.
“This means that other medical institutions will have to be redesigned. Unfortunately, it will hardly be possible to do this without prejudice to the provision of medical care in other profiles, ”the press service of the regional government quoted Fokin as saying.
The city hospital №3 Ivanovo is preparing 30 additional beds with oxygen. Another 60 beds for follow-up treatment of patients will be deployed in the near future at a rehabilitation clinic in Ivanovo: patients will be transferred there after intensive therapy in covid hospitals.
Fokin noted that due to the increased mortality from the coronavirus, the burden on the pathological services has also increased.
Currently, they are looking for additional refrigerators in the region, as the morgues cannot cope with storing bodies until they are handed over to relatives. Fokin explained that many do not take the bodies of their deceased relatives for a long time, as they are afraid of infection.
As of November 16, 13,646 cases of new coronavirus infection were registered in the Ivanovo region. 9,524 patients recovered, 203 died.
Earlier on Monday, Alexander Gorelov, deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that the increase in coronavirus cases in Russia is associated with an increase in population testing.
