Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova said that collective immunity to coronavirus infection in Russia could be formed in September.
“The approximate date for achieving herd immunity in the Russian Federation is September 2021. In different subjects in different ways. It all depends on the intensity of vaccination, ”she said at a meeting of the Council of Legislators at the Federal Assembly on Tuesday, April 27.
The day before, Golikova said that almost 12 million Russians were vaccinated with the first component of the vaccine against coronavirus infection, and 7.5 million people received both doses of the drug.
On April 21, pediatrician, infectious disease specialist Yevgeny Timakov said that collective immunity to COVID-19 in Russia, which is necessary to control the epidemiological process, may not form until the end of this summer.
At the same time, the specialist recalled that collective immunity is formed both at the expense of those who have been vaccinated and at the expense of those who have had COVID-19.
Since January 18, a large-scale vaccination against COVID-19 has been taking place in Russia. The vaccination is given free of charge to everyone.
