The Munich Police Department warns that fake sites have appeared on Internet search engines, which outwardly do not differ from real search engines. These sites advertise fast flight cancellation (Flugstornierungen) with compensation.
One of the first to report such a case to the police was a 58-year-old woman from Munich. She wanted to cancel her flight with Lufthansa and was looking for a website on the Internet to do this. According to the information, the site did not give a false impression and referred to the alleged cancellation hotline. When the woman dialed the number with the German area code, she got into a conversation with a stranger who introduced himself as an airline employee.
According to police, this “airline employee” managed to install a remote service program on the computer of a 58-year-old woman during the conversation. Further, during the conversation, the stranger tried to gain access to the woman’s secret bank details under the pretext of compensation. On this the woman had doubts, and she interrupted the conversation.
When canceling flights, the police urge to use only the official websites of airlines.
