German Energy and Economy Minister Peter Altmeier urged not to politicize the Nord Stream 2 project.
“We must assess the construction and completion of the gas pipeline and make decisions regardless of individual cases,” – quotes the words of the German politician REN TV on Sunday, April 25.
He noted that in 50 years, natural gas supplies have never acted as a political weapon between East and West, and the construction of liquefied gas terminals makes it possible to show independence from gas coming through the pipeline if Russia tries to politically pressure the country.
Altmaier added that violation of Ukraine’s security interests is unacceptable, therefore, transit through its territory will continue after the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream.
In mid-February, Peter Altmaier commented on persistent questions about the Nord Stream 2 project and said they were irrelevant.
Gas supplies require long-term safety and reliability, he said. Altmeier also noted the potential for cooperation between Germany and Russia on hydrogen, which the German side plans to purchase from the Russian.
