The head of Biontech, Ugur Shahin, said that after a certain period of time, the vaccinated may need a third vaccination against coronavirus. According to the expert, the level of infection in Germany may “begin to clearly decline due to the advanced vaccination campaign not earlier than the end of May or the beginning of June,” Shahin is quoted by Spiegel.

“Our main problem is that the B.1.1.7 virus is now starting to spread in Germany. However, vaccination is progressing. Starting from mid-March, the mortality rate of the elderly population vaccinated in the first place should decrease if vaccination continues, ”Shahin explained.

“By the end of this summer, we will be able to better control the pandemic. A prerequisite for this is vaccination of a sufficient number of people, ”said the 55-year-old expert. He stressed that the coronavirus will not go away. Taking control of a virus does not mean that the number of new infections will be zero. “But we will be able to live the usual life again.”
