In the European Union, coronavirus vaccination is still too slow, and the main reason for this is the lack of vaccine doses.
The first vaccine against covid registered in the EU was the German-American BioNTech / Pfizer, then the vaccine of the company AstraZeneca was registered, from which the EU ordered a large number of doses.
But this company is failing to meet its obligations. So, in the second quarter, it pledged to provide 180 million doses, but due to the suspension of the use of this vaccine due to medical indicators, the delivery schedule was violated.
In this situation, politicians in different EU countries, including Germany, are increasingly referring to the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia and urging to actively use it in the vaccination campaign. The European regulator EMA can register a Russian vaccine within two months.
Since April, the US company Johnson & Johnson is also expected to deliver the already approved vaccine to Europe.
Registration of the second German mRNA vaccine created by CureVac is expected in May-June. The EU has ordered a total of 405 million doses from her.
