Following the spread of reports of possible side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Norway temporarily stopped vaccination with the drug. Earlier this decision was made in Denmark. Both countries declare a precautionary measure.
After it became known about the death that occurred in Denmark due to the formation of a blood clot a few days after vaccination with the drug Astra-Zeneca. The authorities want to wait for information on whether a link has been found between vaccinations and the appearance of a blood clot, said FHI director Geir Buholm, director of infection prevention and control at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
Like the Danes, the Norwegians reported that the link between vaccination and what happened has not yet been established. However, as a precautionary measure, vaccinations with Astra-Zeneca are being discontinued while inspections are being conducted, Buholm said. This break does not mean that vaccination with Astra-Zeneca is no longer recommended. How long the pause will last is not yet known. In Denmark, he will not be vaccinated with this drug for 14 days.
The website of the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicines (EMA) published a statement that the reaction of both countries was taken into account. Along with Denmark and Norway, several other EU member states have also temporarily suspended vaccination with Astra-Zeneca. However, there is currently no evidence that blood clots are associated with vaccination. This condition is not listed as a side effect of this vaccine.
Earlier, Austria, Estonia, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Latvia announced the suspension of vaccination with AstraZeneca. Recall that before that in Austria, a 49-year-old nurse died due to a blood clotting disorder. She had received her first dose of AstraZeneca ten days earlier. A second nurse (35 years old) developed pulmonary embolism a few days after being vaccinated with a drug from the same batch. The woman is currently on the mend The EMA believes the 49-year-old nurse’s death is not related to the AstraZeneca vaccine.
