The chairman of the World Medical Association (Weltärztebund) Frank Ulrich Montgomery, in view of the new increase in the number of infections, is opposed to easing restrictions. “Anyone who talks about lifting restrictions when the R coefficient rises is acting completely irresponsible,” the expert told the Funke Mediengruppe in an interview.

Each relaxation of restrictions means an inevitable significant increase in the number of infected. “The incidence rate shows where we are at present. The R value indicates where we are heading. If the value is above 1.0, the situation threatens to deteriorate sharply again due to the exponential growth of cases – and this is the situation we have right now.

The R value for the week on Sunday afternoon for the third time in a row exceeded 1.0, rising to the level of 1.10, said the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The incidence rate has risen over the past seven days to 60 cases per 100,000 population.
