Five Russian citizens were detained in southern Turkey while trying to illegally cross the border from Syria. This was reported on Wednesday, February 17, by the Turkish Defense Ministry.
“Our border guards in the Narlija region in Hatay province caught six people, five of whom are Russian citizens, one is a Libyan citizen. They tried to illegally enter the territory of our country from Syria, ”the department said.
The Turkish Defense Ministry noted that one detained Russian woman was wanted for her involvement in the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), Gazeta.ru reports.
Earlier, on February 14, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation warned about the impending provocation of militants in Syria.
On February 12, it was reported that illegal armed groups transferred arms and heavy weapons to government forces in the Syrian town of Tafas.
