The risk of contracting any viruses, not just the new coronavirus, increases by more than 250% with regular lack of sleep. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Center for Sleep Medicine at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Alexander Kalinkin, on Sunday, January 17.
Sleep and immunity, according to the physician, are synonymous and the latter is stronger in those people who sleep more than seven hours a day compared to those whose sleep lasts less than five hours.
Kalinkin advised to go to bed and wake up at the same time to improve the quality of sleep, which, the expert emphasized, is as important for health as proper nutrition along with physical activity.
In addition, the physician recommended abandoning traditional alarm clocks and using light gadgets to improve awakening and regulate circadian rhythms, writes Gazeta.ru.
At the end of December, candidate of psychological sciences, associate professor, somnologist Alexei Melekhin said that the quality of sleep is significantly influenced by nutrition. The expert noted that if a person really wants to have a snack before bedtime, then it is better to do it an hour or two before that. At the same time, it is better to give preference to products without carbohydrates and products with caffeine content, he stressed.
Meanwhile, Melekhin noted that food has a calming effect on many people. For example, foods containing tryptophan soothe and improve the quality of sleep, especially in those people who suffer from insomnia. These include, for example, nuts, bananas, cheeses, legumes
