According to Jeff Houston, a spokesman for the Navy’s Criminal Investigation Service, explosives have been found missing at the Marine Corps base in Twentynine Palms, California.
Located in the desert of the southern region of the state, the Marine Air and Ground Operations Center held combat training games from January 15 to February 18, in which thousands of Marines from various corps units took part. Citing an ongoing investigation, Houston declined to disclose what kind of explosives went missing and when it happened. The incident also declined to comment on the leadership of the base.
Twentynine Palms is the largest US Marine Corps base in the San Bernardino desert. The disappearance of the explosives was brought to the attention of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s office and local law enforcement, but office spokeswoman Jody Miller said they were not asked to assist in the investigation.
