Experts of the analytical agency “Autostat” conducted a study and found out that every tenth new passenger car sold in 2020 in Russia may be subject to a luxury tax. So, out of 1 million 486.6 thousand cars sold, 146.5 thousand have an average price of more than 3 million rubles.
Recall that the increasing coefficients for the transport tax for the owners of expensive cars (or the luxury tax) came into force in 2014. So, car owners for 3-5 million rubles and not older than one year must pay transport tax with a coefficient of 1.5. For cars for 5-10 million rubles and up to five years of age, the tax is doubled, and for models priced at 10-15 million rubles and aged 10-20 years – in triple.
In February 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia compiled an updated list of cars subject to luxury tax. So, the list was replenished with long-wheelbase minivans Citroen SpaceTourer and Peugeot Traveler, top-versions Skoda Kodiaq, Mazda CX-9, Honda Pilot, Kia Mohave and Toyota Fortuner. Also, the tax will have to be paid to the owners of the base versions of the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Now the list of cars subject to luxury tax includes 1,387 models with an average cost of 3 million rubles or more.
On March 2, it was reported that in Russia in January 2021, the weighted average price of a new passenger car was 1 million 803 thousand rubles. This is 13.3% more than in the same month last year.
