The plans of the founder of Telegram Pavel Durov to raise funds for the development of his own company can be called feasible. Analysts reported this to Izvestia on Thursday, February 18.

As specified, the businessman wants to get at least $ 1 billion by placing bonds among a limited number of investors. Experts believe that an increase in the number of messenger users and the prospects for an IPO will allow Durov to easily raise funds for the development of the service.

TeleTrade chief economist Mark Goykhman said that the concept of raising funds from Telegram is well thought out. Due to the formation of the price of bonds and their availability only for a narrow circle of people, an entrepreneur will be able to form a group of loyal large investors, which will reduce the risk of potential conflicts in the future, the specialist is sure.

In turn, Finam analyst Leonid Delitsyn stressed that such a scheme would save Telegram money, and he would not need to sacrifice votes of the shareholders’ meeting before the bonds begin to convert.

Nevertheless, Mikhail Tretyak, partner of the law firm Digital Rights Center, said that the service had been considered unprofitable for eight years and was very expensive for Durov. The specialist expressed doubt that after the first failure international investors will start investing in the service.

As the analyst of BCS World of Investments Vasily Karpunin concluded, the result will depend on the specific conditions that Telegram will offer. Success in attracting investors will mainly be due to a possible conversion into shares during the IPO.
