The Belgorod region became the first region of Russia, where the forthcoming December 31 was made a day off. The corresponding order was signed by the Acting Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on December 2.

Then, the authorities of Stavropol, Crimea and Kursk regions decided to make December 31 a non-working day for civil servants.

Earlier in December, the head of Sober Russia, Sultan Khamzaev, asked the heads of the regions to declare December 31 a day off. In his opinion, an official day off will allow Russians to spend this day with their families and make them calmer and happier.

On December 2, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov noted that the regional authorities themselves can decide whether to make December 31 a non-working day.
