As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised after the January 6 events, a Democratic majority passed a resolution requiring all visitors to the Capitol, including members of the House of Representatives, to pass through security checkpoints equipped with metal detectors.
Violators of this new rule will be fined: for the first violation the fine will be $ 5,000, and for the second violation – $ 10,000. All Republicans voted against this measure, and they were joined by three Democrats, but the resolution was approved by 216 votes in favor and 210 votes against.
“I cannot understand why any member of the House could refuse to implement these simple and reasonable measures taken to improve the security of our legislature,” Pelosi said after the resolution was passed. – Unfortunately, we had to resort to fines for those who do not want to obey these necessary rules. Our House represents the people of America, and we must fearlessly carry out our work for the benefit of the people. ”
