“I just want to say a big thank you to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed (Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai – ed.) For giving us the chance to be part of this charity program,” said the buyer of AA9, who requested anonymity.

U31, T38 and E51 registration plates were also put up for auction. In total, the auction brought in $ 13.2 million. The proceeds from the auction will go to a campaign to distribute food to the poor.

Among the participants in the auction were the Prime Minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The previous record for license plate sales was also set in Dubai. The D5 registration mark was sold for nearly $ 9 million in 2016.

Ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began on April 12, Dubai announced the distribution of 100 million meals to those in need. Part of the funds for the implementation of the initiative will be collected at various charity auctions.
