Brazil crossed the threshold of 250,000 deaths from covid-19 on Thursday, exactly one year after the first case of contamination appeared in the country, today the second most bereaved in the world by the pandemic, announced the Ministry of Health .

According to figures from the ministry, considered highly undervalued by the scientific community, 251,498 deaths have been recorded in total, after 1,541 additional deaths in the past 24 hours.
The number of new cases of contamination in 24 hours is very high, at 65,998, according to the ministry.
For a month, Brazil has suffered an average of more than 1,000 deaths per day with the occurrence of a second wave which in seven states (out of a total of 26 plus Brasilia) is already more deadly than the first last year.
Brazil is the second most bereaved country behind the United States, which passed the 500,000 death mark on Monday. It also surpassed 10 million infections last week, joining the United States and India.
The national vaccination campaign for 212 million Brazilians, launched only on January 17, is very sluggish and suffers from insufficient doses of vaccines.
