The head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Josep Borrell, held talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, at which the situations in Ukraine, Iran and Afghanistan were discussed
“Josep Borrell and Anthony Blinken discussed the latest developments in Ukraine and expressed deep concern about the buildup of Russian military forces near the borders of Ukraine and in the illegally annexed Crimea,” the European Foreign Service (EMU) said in a statement on April 13.
The parties also agreed to continue work on stabilization in Afghanistan, discussed the Iranian nuclear deal and noted the importance of its full implementation by all parties.
On April 11, Anthony Blinken said the White House was concerned about the fact that “more Russian forces are concentrated on the border between Russia and Ukraine than at any time since 2014”.
By this he explained the maintenance of close interaction between the United States and allies from among the countries of Europe. He also stressed that Biden will make Russia “pay” in case of irresponsible behavior.
In turn, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the country poses no threat to anyone, stressing that the movement of Russian troops across Russian territory should not bother other countries.
Since 2014, Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup and the new government in Ukraine. The settlement issues are being discussed in the Minsk and Normandy formats – with the participation of Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany.
