An open dialogue between Washington and Russia will benefit bilateral relations, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said when asked about the prospects for a US-Russian summit.
According to Blinken, the United States is ready to retaliate in the event of “thoughtless and aggressive” actions by the Russian authorities. At the same time, the Secretary of State noted that Washington is counting on “stable and predictable” relations with Moscow.
“The opportunity to talk face to face will be beneficial as if we have to react to the continuation of Russia [подобной] activity, and in case we need to decide what actions to take if it [Россия] will choose a more predictable and stable course, ”CNN reported on Tuesday, April 27.
However, Blinken did not answer the question of whether the Russian side confirmed its participation in the summit.
Earlier Tuesday, US leader Joe Biden declined to answer a question about whether he would set conditions for a meeting with Putin.
On April 21, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed that the Russian and US governments continue to consider the idea of holding a personal meeting between Putin and Biden.
She noted that at present the organization of the summit requires the consent of both sides to meet. According to her, the Russian Federation and the United States continue to conduct high-level discussions.
On April 13, a telephone conversation took place between Putin and Biden at the initiative of the American side. The head of the White House declared his commitment to building stable and predictable relations with Russia in accordance with the interests of the United States and invited Putin to hold a meeting to discuss all issues at the highest level. According to Biden, he came up with the idea to hold a summit in the summer in one of the European countries.
