US President Joe Biden said he hopes to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin during his trip to Europe in June.
“Yes, I hope and expect it to be so. We are working on this, ”Biden said on May 4 during a briefing that was broadcast in Twitter account White House.
Earlier in the day, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed confidence that a face-to-face conversation between Putin and Biden would benefit both countries. He stressed that Washington does not want escalation in relations with Moscow, but, on the contrary, seeks to restore stability, writes Gazeta.ru.
According to Blinken, Biden wants to discuss with Putin the stabilization of relations between the two countries.
On April 13, a telephone conversation took place between Putin and Biden at the initiative of the American side. The head of the White House declared his commitment to building stable and predictable relations with Russia in accordance with the interests of the United States and invited the President of the Russian Federation to hold a meeting to discuss all issues at the highest level.
As the American leader later noted, he came up with an idea to hold a summit in the summer in one of the European countries.
On April 21, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed that Moscow and Washington continue to consider the idea of holding a personal meeting between the two presidents.
