The ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, one of the richest women in the world, Mackenzie Scott, married a science teacher Dan Jewett, writes Bloomberg.
As the agency specifies, the chosen one of the 50-year-old billionaire teaches at a private school in Seattle. The wedding was not public, and the last celebration became known from Jewett himself, who mentioned this in his column on the Giving Pledge website.
This portal was created by spouses Bill and Melinda Gates, as well as Warren Buffett for billionaires who intend to donate most of their fortune to charity.
In a statement, the schoolteacher joined Scott’s pledge to pursue philanthropy.
“It is strange to write a letter stating that I plan to give away most of my fortune, since I have never sought the kind of wealth required for charity. <...> And now, by a happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know, and I join her in the obligation to transfer a huge financial fortune for the benefit of others, ”the text says.
Juett noted that he worked as a teacher all his life. This, he said, taught him “to give resources of all kinds – time, energy, material property.”
In September 2020, Mackenzie’s fortune was estimated at $ 68 billion, which made her the richest woman in the world for a while. However, according to the latest data from Bloomberg, its capital is $ 53.5 million, which corresponds to the 22nd place in the overall ranking of the world’s billionaires.
Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott studied together at Princeton University, but met only in 1992, when both worked for the investment fund DE Shaw. They married a year later, and in 1994 moved from New York to Seattle, where Bezos founded Amazon.com. The couple have four children – three sons and an adopted daughter.
The divorce took place in the summer of 2019. Bezos transferred to Scott 4% of shares (19.7 million shares) of Amazon, which at the time of the divorce proceedings were estimated at $ 38.3 billion.
