The Belarusian Foreign Ministry regrets the US decision to renew the sanctions against Belneftekhim and its structural enterprises. This is stated on April 20 in a statement by the department, BelTA informs.

US actions are aimed at worsening the material well-being of Belarusians and reducing the economic potential of the republic, the Foreign Ministry noted. Against the backdrop of the most serious internal problems that are widely heard today, the new US administration “is going out of its way to demonstrate cruelty and pseudo-principle on someone.”

“The interests of business, ordinary Belarusians or Americans, security and stability in the region and the world in this process do not matter for Washington. Perhaps because our region will again have to pay for the consequences of such irresponsible actions on its own, ”the Belarusian Foreign Ministry added.

It is time for the White House to understand that Minsk will not allow compromises in matters of sovereignty and independence, the country will be able to stand up for itself and will not accept prodding, the document says.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has promised an asymmetric response for the American side. “We emphasize that any progress in bilateral relations is possible only as a result of a mutually respectful dialogue, for which, as before, the Belarusian side is ready,” the Foreign Ministry concluded.

On the eve of the US Treasury Department suspended US sanctions against nine state-owned enterprises in Belarus and allowed to conduct a number of financial transactions with them until June 3. Washington imposed sanctions on the republic in 2006. In 2015, the restrictions were partially suspended.

In December 2020, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the CEC of Belarus and a number of officials. Later, the restrictions were extended to 43 more citizens of the country, including high-ranking officials, for “undermining democracy” in the republic.
