Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR), took personal control of the investigation of the criminal case into the death of three people under an avalanche in Norilsk. This was announced on Saturday, January 9, by the official representative of the department, Svetlana Petrenko.
“The chairman of the RF IC, Alexander Bastrykin, put the investigation of a number of criminal cases under control in the central office of the department. One of them was initiated by the investigative bodies of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Khakassia under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation <...> in connection with the death of people as a result of an avalanche on the site of the mountain skiing complex “Otdelnaya Mountain” in the Talnakh region of Norilsk, “she said.
The avalanche descended on the night of January 9 (in the evening of January 8, Moscow time). Under the mass of snow at the mountain skiing base “Otdelnaya Mountain”, according to investigators, there were four houses. At the same time, it was previously reported about five, and then about six houses.
In the course of search and rescue operations, the bodies of a 45-year-old man, his 38-year-old wife and a one and a half year old child were recovered from under the snow.
The Commission for the Prevention of Emergency Situations has banned visits to Otdelnaya Mountain in the Norilsk region, where the avalanche fell. Also, movement was restricted in the areas of the mountain, the gorge of the Talnakh river and VS-10.
January 10 is declared a day of mourning for the dead. The criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence”).
