The headquarters of the former contender for the presidency of Belarus and ex-head of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko, in response to accusations of organizing unrest in the country, replied that the protests did not have coordinators. “The protests have no coordinators and leaders, they arise spontaneously in all cities as a reaction to deception, rudeness and the use of violence by the authorities. The Belarusians were deceived, and their indignation is understandable, “RIA Novosti quotes her.

She stressed that the violence comes from the authorities of Belarus, and called on Minsk to abandon the use of force and repression against citizens and “not to arrange Maidans” on the streets of cities.

Earlier that day, the Belarus 1 TV channel reported that facts of the involvement of representatives of Babariko’s headquarters in the riots in the country had been established in the country. It was emphasized that the headquarters carried out their organization, coordination and financing.

At the same time, Babariko himself and his son are currently in the pre-trial detention center of the State Security Committee on the case of tax evasion and legalization of funds obtained by criminal means.

On August 9, presidential elections were held in Belarus. According to the latest data from the Central Election Commission, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko won 80.08% of the vote, opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was supported by 10.09% of voters. Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters did not recognize the results of the vote.

After the announcement of the preliminary results, unauthorized protests began in Minsk and other cities of Belarus, which resumed in the evening on August 10 and 11. Both civilians and security forces suffered, one person died.
