The Armenian Defense Ministry announced that Russian border guards will be deployed in some sections of the border with Azerbaijan. As noted in the department, they will ensure security on the disputed sections of the road between the Armenian regional centers Goris and Kapan, which runs along the border of the republics.

The length of the disputed road sections is 21 km. Goris is located 240 km from Yerevan and 70 km from Kapan on the Yerevan-Stepanakert highway.

“In accordance with the agreement reached, Russian border troops will be deployed on the Goris-David Bek section of the road to ensure uninterrupted traffic,” said a statement posted on the Defense Ministry’s website on Saturday, December 19.

At the moment, complex security measures are being carried out at this site. Border guards of Armenia and Azerbaijan will soon be deployed on the line of contact.

On December 20, the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said that the ministry’s specialists delivered another consignment of humanitarian aid to Nagorno-Karabakh by rail. It is reported that the day before, experts unloaded seven wagons with humanitarian aid. We are talking about 300 cubic meters. m of lumber and a platform with a truck crane. This is the second part of the humanitarian aid delivered by the Russian Emergencies Ministry by rail. In total, nine cars out of 54 arrived in the region.

On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev signed an agreement according to which hostilities ceased in Nagorno-Karabakh on November 10.

The document also provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the region, the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict, the transfer of a number of regions of the region by Yerevan to Baku and the return of refugees to Karabakh.
