The animal protection organization “Vita” appealed to the Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia with a request to control the investigation of the long-term murder of dogs and cats, which are caught in the Irkutsk region.

The reason for the appeal was a signal from volunteers, who at the beginning of November managed to enter a shelter in the village of Karluk, 13 km from Irkutsk, where the bodies of dogs were found, some of which ended up in freezers. Also in the bags were the corpses of animals with traces of violent death.

According to the animal rights activists, the shelter belongs to LLC Five Stars, which is a monopolist in the capture and maintenance of stray animals in the Irkutsk region.

“In the course of public investigations of local activists and as a result of the responses received by them from the relevant authorities about the activities since 2008 of the head of LLC“ Five Stars ”AP Soldatov. it was found that stray dogs are systematically killed by cruel methods right during the capture, and a few dogs are sent to the so-called illegal “shelter”, – quotes “Interfax” words of the appeal.

It is noted that in this “shelter” animals “quickly die of hunger, thirst and infection.” For all the time, Alexander Soldatov killed more than 50 thousand dogs and cats, according to the authors of the appeal.

In turn, the owner of “Five Stars” Soldatov said that he considers the accusations of animal rights defenders far-fetched, and also spoke about the threats coming to his family.

“There have been provocations around our shelter for a long time. There were cases when dead animals were thrown to us. If there is evidence that the dogs were killed, law enforcement should investigate. Now the veterinary service is being checked at the shelter, agreed by the prosecutor’s office. Let’s wait for its results, ”he said.

As the “Oblastnaya Gazeta” Irkutsk wrote on November 9, the Veterinary Service of the region began on November 7 an unscheduled inspection of the shelter, owned by “Five Stars”. It will run until December 2. However, the defenders removed the dogs and cats from the institution, which made it difficult to identify violations.

Based on the results of the inspection, the veterinary service will prepare an act that will be sent to the prosecutor’s office of the Irkutsk region and the owner of the shelter to take measures to eliminate violations.

As Soldatov told the agency, several dogs, which were taken out by the activists, returned back to the shelter. “If they were bad with us, they would not come back,” he said.

According to him, in 2020 the specialists of the shelter caught more than 4 thousand stray dogs. However, they are not constantly kept in the shelter – 30 days after the capture, treatment, sterilization and entry into the database, the animals are released into the wild, and not killed.

“The hype around the shelter and the threats against the Soldatov family was linked to competition in the Irkutsk market for trapping stray animals and called the actions of his competitors“ lawlessness ”.

This summer, the transfer of the baby elephant Ekol to the Zapashny Circus caused a wide public response. Artists and animal rights activists demanded to check the fact of the transfer of the animal. Irina Novozhilova, President of the Vita organization, emphasized that elephants are by nature social animals that grow in the family environment of their relatives. Their stages of maturation roughly correspond to those of humans. Also, according to her, the transfer of the animal to the circus will worsen the conditions of its detention.

In early November, at the request of “Vita” in Rostov-on-Don, the prosecutor’s office began checking the circumstances of the transfer of this elephant to the circus.

The Animal Welfare Center claims that the transfer conditions have been violated, which means that it is illegal. The elephant was to be exchanged for a chimpanzee and a Sumatran orangutan. As a result, it turned out that the circus had no chimpanzees, and he simply bought Ekol for 9.5 million rubles.
