Amazon has canceled the release of a video game based on the Lord of the Rings universe, Bloomberg writes on Saturday, April 17.
A representative of the corporation told the agency that at this stage it was not possible to “provide the necessary conditions” for further work on the game.
The game was developed by Amazon Game Studios and the Chinese company Leyou Technologies Holdings, which was acquired by Tencent in December last year. After that, the companies had disagreements that led to the abandonment of the project.
The start of work on the Lord of the Rings game was announced in 2019.
Earlier on Saturday, it became known that Amazon Studios will spend $ 465 million on the production of the first season of The Lord of the Rings. Thus, the series will become the most expensive ever produced.
The showrunners of the new Lord of the Rings are John Payne, Patrick McKay and Juan Antonio Bayona. The series will feature both new and familiar characters.
At the end of March, a Soviet adaptation of The Lord of the Rings was published online. Two parts of the TV show “Keepers”, based on the work of John Tolkien, were found 30 years later in the archives of Channel Five and published on YouTube.
