In the Primorsky Territory, a tigress was caught, which for several months harassed local residents and attacked dogs. This was announced on Sunday, April 25, by the press service of the regional government.
The predator was caught in the vicinity of the village of Filippovka. According to the Ministry of Forestry and Hunting of the Primorsky Territory, presumably, this is a female at the age of 8-9 years.
The first reports of a tiger in the area began to arrive in December 2020. Experts made an attempt to scare away the predator from the settlements, where she periodically hunted dogs, but the tactics did not work. According to the website kp.ru, the female hunted in the villages of Zanadvorka, Filippovka and Barabash. In addition, she attacked calves and pigs. After the tiger returned to the vicinity of the settlements, it was decided to catch it.
The tigress was taken to the “Tiger” rehabilitation center in the village of Alekseevka, where specialists will conduct an examination to establish the reasons for her behavior. After a rehabilitation course, the animal will be released into the wild away from people, if experts decide that this is permissible. If they decide that the tiger will not be able to hunt on its own, and hunger will bring him back to people, she can be left in captivity or sent to a safari park.
In addition to other animals, there are two Amur tigers in this center. After treatment and overexposure, the animals are released in sparsely populated areas in the Primorsky Territory or neighboring regions, writes the Federal News Agency.
In 2020, 159 conflicts between humans and predators, including leopards and bears, occurred on the territory of the region. Of these, 60 incidents were with tigers. Three Amur tigers were removed from the natural environment.
