A resident of the urban-type settlement Bezhanitsy, located in the east of the Pskov region, was caught in a fraud with the sale of water filters in the Leningrad region. Last week, near St. Petersburg, a group of managers of a commercial firm was detained, who forced pensioners to buy unnecessary water filters at an inflated price.
As reported on the website of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, law enforcement officers became aware of the fraud on February 11. A 74-year-old resident of the city of Luga, Leningrad Region, came to the police. An elderly woman reported that a few hours ago, three strangers – a man and a woman – entered her apartment on Red Artillery Street.
They assured that they were employees of a water supply organization and forced the pensioner to install an unnecessary water filter for 21,900 rubles. The woman realized that the price was greatly overstated after the company left. The pensioner decided to contact the police immediately.
This promptness made it possible to catch the alleged intruders in a few minutes after the complaint. The fraudsters included three men aged 25 to 34 and a 23-year-old girl.
According to 47news, the company used a BMW with Pskov license plates. At the time of the arrest, a 25-year-old resident of Bezhanitsy, a 28-year-old resident of St. Petersburg, a 34-year-old resident of Borovichi, Novgorod Region, and a 23-year-old native of the Smolensk village turned out to be in the car.
The information that all the detainees had nothing to do with the water supply unitary enterprise of the same name was confirmed immediately.
Now law enforcement agencies have opened a criminal case under the article “Fraud”. There is a search for other victims of the actions of the sellers of water filters.
