A cement plant can be built on Sakhalin. This is necessary because the rate of new housing construction is increasing in the island region. An investor from South Korea is interested in sponsoring the venture. This was told in the government of the Sakhalin region.

“In the region, it is necessary to organize the production of building materials in order to reduce dependence on supplies from the mainland. Own production will allow to reduce the price per square meter, which means that more residential buildings will be erected, ”Governor Valery Limarenko explained the initiative.

The cement plant is planned to be built in the Smirnykhovsky district, near the village of Pobedino. The Gomon limestone deposit is located there. The new plant will be able to produce 700 thousand tons of cement per year, and will create 500 jobs.

Representative of SI Resources Co., Ltd Chai Gen Dek added that he hopes to resolve all the mandatory issues as soon as possible and to start the project.
