A court in the Alma-Ata region of Kazakhstan granted the petition of Zhanar Tolybaeva, convicted in the case of the murder of figure skater Denis Ten, and replaced the unserved part of the sentence with restraint of freedom. This was reported on Wednesday, January 6, by the Tengrinews.kz agency.
“By the decision of the Iliyskiy District Court of the Alma-Ata Region dated January 6, 2020, this petition was satisfied. Control over the serving of the sentence is entrusted to the probation service, ”the staff of the Supreme Court of the Republic reported on the portal.
The Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of the city of Alma-Ata sentenced Tolybaeva to 4 years in prison for failure to report a crime in January 2019. In the spring of the same year, she gave birth to a child in the colony.
Other defendants in the case, Arman Kudaibergenov and Nuraly Kiyasov, were sentenced to 18 years in prison. Kudaibergenov was found guilty of murder, robbery and theft, Kiyasov – of murder and robbery.
Kazakh figure skater, bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Sochi Denis Ten died from a knife wound in a fight with malefactors on July 19, 2018. The athlete noticed that they were removing the mirrors from his car and tried to stop them. The criminals stabbed the skater in the thigh. The victim died in the hospital on the same day without regaining consciousness.
