An Irish drug delivery boy who called the police because he thought he forgot his package of cocaine on a train has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Darren Barnwell, 20, was traveling to Cork City with the package estimated at more than 40,000 euros in 2018 when the incident occurred.

After getting off the transport, the young man panicked when he realized he didn’t have the package of cocaine he was supposed to deliver in his possession, reports the Irish Times.

Convinced that he had forgotten it on the train, he went to see a controller to try to recover it. A quarrel between Barnwell and a controller ensued as the latter refused to let him in.

Detective Sergeant Kieran O’Sullivan testified in court that an individual, who is presumably the accused, telephoned the police to report a lost bag.

Meanwhile, Darren Barnwell would have remembered going to a store after getting off the train, Irish media reported. He would then have returned to the store where he found his package.

Mr. O’Sullivan recounts that the accused was intercepted as he left the store. When he opened the bag, he discovered the large amount of cocaine in it.

Although he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, Barnwell told the court that he was only acting as a delivery driver.

The youngster could however avoid spending the next four years behind bars. It is because the judge suspended the entire sentence of the accused on condition that he undertakes to keep the peace and to demonstrate exemplary behavior during the sentence.
